I was sure I wouldn’t like this, but I did, so yay?
This is a story written in 1st POV (partly why I thought I wouldn’t like it) from 2 different but also very similar women. One storyline takes place in the 1930s while the other takes place in present day.
It’s about Vera, a young poor woman who falls in love with a very rich man in the 1930s.
And it’s about Claire, a modern day journalist researching, what she thinks is a harmless event from the 1930s which then turns out to be so much more..
Yes, I did guess the “event” halfway through, but that didn’t really take anything away from the story or me enjoying it. I read the last part on a train, and I kid you not, I had to bite the inside of my cheek, while reading, to stop from tearing up..
I didn’t much like Vera, but other than that I really liked everyone in this story, I really liked the fast flow of words and I even liked the HEA! ending! Which, if you’ve read some of my other reviews you would know, is crazy.
4 stars.
